Section 1
Quick start
Five steps from box to first measured putt. Steps 5 and 6 matter more than they look, so do not skip them.
-
Charge it
Plug in the USB-C cable. The screen shows a battery icon with CHARGING and the percentage, and reads CHARGED when it is full. A full charge from empty takes roughly one and a half to two hours.
-
Install the grip adapter
Screw the adapter into the hole in the butt end of your putter grip. It seats flush and stays there permanently. Most grips have this hole from the factory. If yours is sealed, pierce the cap first.
-
Attach the sensor
The sensor snaps onto the adapter magnetically. It only goes on one way and self aligns. To remove it, pull straight off.
-
Power on
Press the power button. You will see the Plus Putt icon, then the Path logo. The very first time you start up, three short welcome screens walk you through the power button, waking the device and the swipe gestures. Tap through them and the device opens Face Angle. After that it always reopens whichever app you used last.
-
Set your putter length and handedness
Swipe down from the top to open Settings. Set Putter length to your actual putter length, and confirm Handedness matches you.
-
Putt
Take your address and hold still for about a second. The status bar at the top turns green and you feel a single firm tick. That means the device is armed and watching. Make your stroke. Your numbers appear the moment the ball is gone.
Set your putter length first
This is the single most important setup step. Every distance and every speed number on the device is calculated from your putter length. A 34 inch putter set to 40 inches makes everything read long. Set it accurately once, and update it whenever you move the sensor to a different putter.
Section 2
Understanding the screen
One arc, five gestures, and three buzzes. Learn these and the whole device opens up.
The status bar
A colored arc sits at the top edge of the screen. It is the tracking indicator, and it is the single most important thing to watch. A putt is only measured when the bar is green.
The number one reason a putt does not register
Stroking before the bar goes green. Take your address, pause for about a second, wait for the green bar and the tick, then putt. Once you learn the tick you never have to look up at all.
Gestures
| Gesture | What it does |
|---|---|
| Swipe left or right | Move between apps |
| Swipe up from the bottom | Open the all apps grid. Every app as an icon, tap one to jump straight to it |
| Swipe down from the top | Open device Settings |
| Press and hold the screen | Open the current app's own settings and how to page |
| Double tap | Restart the round, in games |
| Tap | App specific. In History it cycles the metric shown |
Remember this one
Press and hold the screen inside any app to open that app's own settings and a built in how to page. Every app has one. It is the fastest way to change a target, a window, or a difficulty without leaving what you are doing.
Haptic feedback
| You feel | It means |
|---|---|
| Single tick | The device just armed. The bar is green and a putt will be measured |
| Single tick after a putt | Valid putt recorded |
| Double tick after a putt | A dead square face angle. Nicely done |
| Silence after a putt | The stroke was rejected. See Troubleshooting |
Powering off
Swipe down to Settings. POWER OFF is the second item, directly under the battery. You can also hold the physical power button until it buzzes.
To wake it, press the power button or double tap the screen. The device powers itself off after 25 minutes with no putts and no screen taps, so it is never left running in your bag.
Section 3
The apps: Measure
Seventeen apps live on the device. These six are the ones that tell you what your stroke actually did. Swipe left and right to move between them, or swipe up from the bottom for the full grid.

The main app
Face Angle
The face angle at impact in tenths of a degree, with a live graphic of the putter face and your start line.
How to read it. PUSH means the face was open to your address aim, right for a right handed player. PULL means it was closed. SQUARE is dead zero. Green is inside one degree, amber inside four, red beyond that.
Why it matters. Face angle at impact controls roughly 80 to 90 percent of a putt's starting direction. It decides makes and misses more than anything else this device measures. Tour players deliver the face inside about one degree on short putts. Inside 1.0 degree is excellent, inside 2 is solid.
What face angle is measured against
Your face angle is measured relative to where you addressed the ball, not to a target line the device cannot see. If you aim two degrees right and deliver a perfectly square face, the device correctly reads 0.0 degrees and the putt still misses right. Use a chalk line or an alignment stick so your address aim is honest. This is also why your reading can differ from a launch monitor, which measures against its own target line. Both are right.

Replay
Your last stroke redrawn and animated over a grid: the true path the head traveled, plus how the face rotated along the way.
How to read it. Watch where the head travels inside or outside the line, and where the face squares up. Ball position is marked. The animation loops until your next putt replaces it.

Impact
Where on the face you struck the ball, marked on a face on putter graphic. Marks accumulate through the session so you can see your pattern rather than one data point.
How to read it. The readout names the side and the distance, like 4mm TOE, 2mm HEEL, or CENTER. Color grades quality from green near the center out through amber toward the extremes.
Why it matters. Off center strikes lose ball speed and twist the face. A toe strike loses distance and pushes the start line. Consistent center contact is one of the fastest ways to tighten distance control.

Length
Backswing length and follow through length for your last putt as big numbers, plus a proportional bar so the two are instantly comparable, and the ratio between them.
How to read it. The bars grow from a center line, backswing one way and follow through the other. A follow through noticeably shorter than the backswing means you are decelerating into the ball, the most common amateur stroke fault.
A session consistency bar scores how repeatable your backswing length is, graded red through yellow to green, with a grey ring showing full scale.

Tempo
The ratio of backstroke time to forward stroke time as a large number, with a bar for each phase and the actual millisecond time printed inside it.
How to read it. The longer phase fills its bar completely and the other scales against it, so the picture is the ratio. Tour putting strokes cluster near 2.0 : 1, about twice as long going back as coming through.
A session consistency bar shows how repeatable your ratio is, the same visual treatment as Length.

Roll
Estimated ball speed off the face in miles per hour, and the estimated roll out distance, with a ball that rolls out proportionally on screen.
How it works. Ball speed comes from your measured club speed and where you struck the face, since off center contact loses speed. Distance uses the Stimpmeter model: a ball rolling at the stimp reference speed travels exactly the green's stimp distance, and roll scales with the square of speed.
An honest limit. The distance estimate assumes a flat green at the speed you have configured. It is a practice reference for building distance control, not a rangefinder, and it does not know about slope.
Section 4
The apps: Train
Two apps that build a repeatable stroke rather than just describing the one you made.

Metronome
Drill
A dot swings back and forth at a set rhythm with a haptic tick on each beat, so you can groove your tempo with your eyes closed. Away on the first beat, through the ball on the second.
Auto pace is the interesting one. Turn it on and the device measures the timing of your own recent putts and beats at your natural rhythm instead of a preset. The Pace setting greys out because Auto is driving it.
Why that works. A pendulum's swing time does not change with how far it swings, and good putting strokes behave the same way. Your stroke time stays basically constant at every distance and only the backswing length changes. So the right metronome speed is your own natural stroke time, not a number off a chart.

Clone
Repeatability training. Your first stroke sets the target and draws a reference line. Every stroke after that draws a bar next to it, so identical strokes line up perfectly and any mismatch shows as a ragged edge.
Section 5
The apps: Play
Three scored games. The fastest way to turn a practice green into something you actually want to keep doing.

Combine
A scored round where every putt earns 0 to 100 points across four components.
| Component | Points |
|---|---|
| Face angle, square is full marks | 45 |
| Stroke path, straight through the ball | 20 |
| Tempo against your target | 20 |
| Smoothness, accelerating through impact | 15 |
A row of tiles fills in with each putt's quality color, bright red for poor through yellow to bright green for pure. The large plus number is your last putt in that same shade with the running total underneath. Finishing the round opens a results screen with your total, a letter grade from S through D, your average per putt, your personal best and a play again button.

Lag Ladder
The classic lag putting drill, scored. The device calls a random target distance. You putt, and it shows what your putt would have rolled and how far off you were. Then it calls the next one.
Ten putts per round. Your score is the total distance you missed by, so lower is better, and your best round is saved and shown on the tile. Double tap to restart. Finishing a round opens a results screen with your total miss, your best and a play again button.
Why it is worth your time. Distance control causes far more three putts than direction does, and lag putting is the hardest thing to practice alone without a target. This makes it scored and repeatable anywhere.

Mini Golf
A full mini golf course played with real putting strokes. Aim with the on screen dial, then hit an actual putt. Your stroke length sets the power and your face angle sets the line. Obstacles include sand, water, walls, kickers, speed boosts, ice and portals.
Fewest total strokes wins the round. Difficulty starts on Pro, where face angle has a big effect on the line and the cup only accepts a ball arriving at a sensible speed. Casual and Standard are in its settings if you want an easier round.
Section 6
The apps: Review
Five screens for seeing the session rather than the putt.

History
Sessions are logged automatically, and a session closes after two hours idle. The trend chart shows your last 16 sessions as bars with the newest on the right, and compares your latest session to the one before it.
Tap the chart to cycle which metric the bars show: putt count, face standard deviation, or average tempo.

Stats pages
Four of them. 4 Stats A and 4 Stats B show four numbers in a quadrant grid. 2 Stats A and 2 Stats B show two very large numbers, readable at a glance mid practice.
Every slot is configurable. Press and hold any number to open the picker and choose from the full catalog of metrics. Values update the moment a putt lands, and units render small and grey beside the number.
Section 7

Section 9
Charging and battery
- Charge over USB-C. The screen shows CHARGING with a battery icon and percentage, then CHARGED when complete.
- A full charge from empty takes roughly one and a half to two hours.
- Up to about 2.5 hours of continuous screen on tracking per charge, which covers several full practice sessions.
- Leave it on the charger safely. Charging stops automatically when full, and the screen dims itself once it reads CHARGED.
- The device powers itself off after 25 minutes with no putts and no screen taps. Wake it with the power button or by double tapping the screen.
- The battery icon turns red below 10 percent. The device shuts down at 3.20V to protect the cell, and if you press the button below that it shows CHARGE BATTERY for a few seconds and goes back to sleep.
- If the battery ever runs completely flat, just plug it in. It recovers on its own and boots again once it has taken enough charge.
Section 10
Software updates
Path gets better over time. New features and improvements install wirelessly from your computer, free, with no app and no account.
- Set the device on its charger. It needs to be charging before an update will start.
- On the device, open Settings, then Software update. Swipe down from the top of any app to reach Settings.
- On a computer, open update.plusputt.com in Chrome or Edge. Chrome on an Android phone works too. Pick your device, then press Install.
- Choose Plus Putt Path in the small browser pop up that appears.
- Tap INSTALL on the device screen when it asks. Nothing is written to your Path until you confirm it there.
- Watch it finish. Both screens show progress. The device verifies the update, installs it and restarts itself, then shows you what is new.
Your data is safe. Updates replace the software only. Your settings, putt history, session history, stat choices and game best scores all carry over untouched.
It cannot be broken by an interruption. Every release is signed by Plus Putt, and your Path checks that signature before installing a single byte, so software from anywhere else is refused. If the connection drops, the power goes out, or you cancel partway, the device simply keeps the software it already had. Put it back on the charger and run it again.
iPhone owners: Apple does not allow browsers on iOS to connect to devices, so updates need a computer or an Android phone. Any computer with Chrome or Edge will do.
You can check which version you are on any time in Settings, under Software update. Older versions stay available on the update page if you ever need to go back.
Section 11
Care
- Wipe the screen with a soft dry cloth. No solvents.
- The magnetic attachment is strong but not permanent. Remove the sensor before putting the club in a travel bag or airline case.
- Do not leave it in a hot car. Lithium batteries age quickly above about 45 degrees Celsius.
- The grip adapter can stay in your putter permanently.
- Keep the USB-C port clear of grit before plugging in.
Section 12
Troubleshooting
Nearly every question we get is one of these six.
My putt did not register
The bar must be green before you stroke. If it never goes green, hold steadier at address for about a second, make sure the club is pointed down in a normal address position, and check that the sensor is seated on the adapter. If soft putts specifically are being missed, raise Detection Sens. in Settings.
The numbers seem scaled wrong
Check Putter length in Settings. Every distance and speed figure comes from it. A 34 inch putter set to 40 inches makes everything read long.
Push and pull are backwards
Check the Handedness setting. It mirrors both the on screen layouts and the push and pull wording.
Face angle disagrees with my launch monitor
Expected, and usually not an error. Path measures the face relative to where you addressed the ball. A launch monitor measures relative to its own target line. If your aim is off by two degrees, both readings are correct and they will differ by two degrees. Put a chalk line down so your address aim is honest, then compare again.
The screen is dark
Double tap the screen, or press the power button. The device powers itself off after 25 minutes of no activity to save the battery.
A software update did not finish
Nothing is harmed. The device keeps the software it already had. Put it back on the charger, open Settings then Software update again, and run it a second time.
Distance estimates seem off
Set the Green speed slider to match the green you are actually on. The estimate also assumes a flat surface, so slope will move the real result.
It will not turn on
Charge it for 15 minutes and try again. If the battery ran completely flat it needs a little charge before it can boot.
I want to start completely fresh
Settings, then ADVANCED, then FACTORY RESET. Two taps to confirm. This erases all settings, strokes and history, then reboots the device.
Section 13
FAQ
Does it need a phone?
No. Everything runs on the device itself. Bluetooth is used for free wireless software updates, and an app is coming soon.
Does it work indoors?
Yes, anywhere you can make a stroke. It measures the club, not the ball, so no room, mat or ball flight is needed.
Will it fit my putter?
Any putter with a standard grip up to 55 inches, including armlock and broomstick.
Left handed?
Fully supported. Layouts and wording mirror.
Can I move it between putters?
Yes. Extra grip adapters let you leave one in each putter and move the sensor across in a second. Update Putter length when you switch to a club of a different length.
Is it legal for tournament play?
Path is designed for practice and training. Stroke analysis devices are generally not permitted during competition rounds, so check your event's local rules.
How do I update the software?
Set the device on its charger and open Settings, then Software update. On a computer, open update.plusputt.com in Chrome or Edge and follow the two prompts. See Software updates.
Will an update erase my stats?
No. Your settings, putt history, session history and game best scores all carry over.
Can I update from my iPhone?
Not yet. iPhones cannot connect to devices from the browser. Any computer with Chrome or Edge works, and it only takes a couple of minutes.
Do updates cost anything?
No. Free forever, with no subscription.
Is there a subscription?
No. All on device features work forever with no account and no fee.
How accurate is it?
A six axis sensor with on chip fusion samples your stroke hundreds of times per second. Face angle resolves to tenths of a degree.
